Junior and Senior Scholarship ProgramThis program provides financial support through competitively awarded scholarships to college juniors and seniors pursuing aerospace-related science and engineering degrees at OSGC-affiliated institutions. Juniors receive $2,000 and Seniors $3,000. Awards are for one academic year and junior awards are renewable. Applications may be obtained from the OSGC office at each institution and are due by February 1 of each year. See The Consortium page to locate affiliates and campus contacts. A key feature of the program is an emphasis on exposure to research experience by undergraduates. Awardees are required to participate in University research projects and present results at the annual OSGC Research Symposium held every April at OAI in Cleveland, Ohio. Community College Scholarship ProgramCommunity college scholarships are one-year, nonrenewable awards of $1,000 presented during the sophomore year. The student should have the intention to continue for a four-year degree at one of the OSGC-affiliated institutions. Students may apply at any time, preferably during their freshman year, for an award that will begin in the sophomore year. Applications may be obtained from the OSGC office at each community college and are due by the beginning of the Fall term of the student’s sophomore year. See The Consortium page to locate community colleges and campus contacts. Education Scholarship ProgramThis program provides financial support through competitively awarded $1,250 scholarships to undergraduate or graduate students pursuing certification and licensure in a Science- or Mathematics-related discipline in one of the following grade levels at an OSGC participating college or university:
The following colleges and universities are eligible: The University of Akron, Cedarville University, Central State University, University of Cincinnati, Cleveland State University, University of Dayton, Marietta College, Miami University, Ohio Northern University, The Ohio State University, Ohio University, The University of Toledo, Wright State University, and Youngstown State University. Please contact the College of Education at your campus for more details. Each OSGC Education Scholar will plan and conduct an educational project or activity under the guidance and approval of a campus advisor/mentor incorporating technical material into a K-12 lesson, series of lessons, or activity highlighting the significant collections of available NASA educational materials. Examples of some suggested topics are as follows:
The program will collaborate closely with the NASA Glenn Research Center's (GRC) Educational Programs Office (EPO) to ensure there is direct interaction to provide NASA educational resources to the OSGC Education Scholars. To accomplish this, awardees are required to attend a one-day pre-service teacher workshop at the Ohio Aerospace Institute on Friday, November 7, 2008, as part of the program. During this event, time will also be allocated to interact with NASA researchers to build the foundation for future networking relationships. A key feature of the program is an emphasis on exposure to research experience by undergraduates. Awardees are required to present a poster highlighting their educational activity at the annual OSGC Research Symposium held every April at OAI in Cleveland, Ohio. NASA/Ohio Space Grant Bridge Scholarship ProgramThis is a collaborative program that is designed to bridge the gap between students who have completed the NASA Summer High School Apprenticeship Research Program (SHARP) at NASA Glenn Research Center (GRC) as high school students and those eligible for the NASA Undergraduate Student Research Program (USRP), (Juniors and Seniors). SHARP is a NASA program held at each center. The OSGC will utilize for this new program the infrastructure and management of the well established center-unique intern program at GRC, the Lewis' Educational and Collaborative Internship Program (LERCIP), which is in collaboration with the Ohio Aerospace Institute (OAI). The Bridge Program is designed for the enhancement of underrepresented high school students and provides paid internships for students in the fields of engineering, science, technology, and professional administration. Each student is assigned a mentor and is given an 8-week project that is commensurate with their academic field of study. Applicants do not have to attend Space Grant member schools, and community college students will be encouraged to apply. Bridge students will receive Space Grant Pre-Scholar scholarships of $750 for each academic year that they are in the program. Afterwards, as rising juniors and seniors at a Space Grant member school, they may apply for the standard Space Grant scholarships. Bridge students will be assigned to the nearest Space Grant advisor and will be funded to attend the annual OSGC Student Research Symposium held at OAI in Cleveland, Ohio, in April. They will also be assigned a mentor who is currently a Space Grant Scholar or Fellow. For application forms and additional information visit the following web site: www.grc.nasa.gov/WWW/OEP (NASA GRC Privacy Statement); click on Whats New or Student Support.
