Project ASTRO

Global Learning and Observation to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE)
Global Learning and Observations to Benefit the Environment (GLOBE) is a worldwide science and education program that coordinates the work of students, teachers, and scientists to study and understand the global environment. GLOBE is an international partnership that involves countries around the world. Its goals are to increase environmental awareness of individuals throughout the world, to contribute to scientific understanding of the Earth, and to help students everywhere reach higher standards in science and mathematics. Primary and secondary school teachers interested in receiving additional information should contact Jay Reynolds at jay52757@yahoo.com.

Project ASTRO
Project ASTRO is an exciting program sponsored by the Ohio Space Grant Consortium (OSGC). The program is designed for teachers of grades 4 through 9. Each teacher is matched with a volunteer astronomer and learns how to use astronomy and space science activities to engage and motivate students.

As a Project ASTRO teacher, you must commit to attending the training workshop, teach space science/astronomy during the school year, attend two follow-up sessions during the school year, and have a minimum of four visits with your partner astronomer.

Astronomer visits may include hands-on activities, illustrated talks on astronomical ideas and discoveries, question-and-answer sessions, and evening star parties for students and their families. Astronomers also can assist with local curriculum development and planning, provide astronomy resources and understanding, help with student science projects, and serve as role models and mentors for students. The initial training session is generally one and a half days long and is FREE. Graduate credit is generally available through a local institution of higher learning. Fees and tuition for graduate credit are the responsibility of the participant.
